Garden Furniture
Why does good garden furniture last so long? It's obvious...because it costs more, so why do we go out and spend as little as possible and hope that this weeks bargain will see us through season after season!!! Unless it's 'all weather' you need to cover it up or store it away for the winter or it's going to wear and fade fast, so spend wisely and look after your garden furniture once you've got it. We all know that there are bargains to be had but never at the time when the sun's out, unless you're talking about mid-summer when all this seasons good stuff's long gone. I'd suggest buying 'out of season' and bring it out in the spring! Get yourself some decent storage and put it away until the time is right to get full use out of it...and if you insist on leaving it outside get some good wax oil protector, you're going to need it. As with everything, the more you plan the better off you'll be and here's something that does work, if you're in touch with your neighbours...get together and buy in bulk. Any retailer or garden centre will listen to you, when the discount you're after is for MULTIPLE PURCHASES, 'I guarantee it'. Find a good retailer, online or store and tell them your plan, you'll probably become the local hero, at least until the summer's over. Try reclaimed garden furniture as it's always a good buy especially the older wrought iron tables and chairs. It certainly conjours up the flavour of the old 'Parisian cafes' and some clever searching could turn out some truly great bargains. Send some emails out to reclamation yards and get yourself on a buyers list, if they know you want it...they'll get it. A win-win situation for everyone and you could pick up some really stylish bargains. If it's larger items you're looking for measure out the area it's going to be and allow yourself space to move. There's nothing worse than cramming it into too small an area to enjoy your leisure time. Another option is to find a local garden furniture and shed maker, they'll have all the right timber for purpose made benches, contemporary or otherwise and tables that will take all the punishment you and the kids can throw at it. Whenever possible go for maintenance free and try lightweight alloy (some good german designs), hardwood, canvass, wrought iron and plastic. Push the budget! Mike Lyons.....Any questions!
