Block Paving

Block paving is probably one of the most versatile of landscaping materials as its uses bridge between domestic and commercial use which can be fitted into virtually any garden design.

It’s most popular use is in driveway construction and fitted correctly can last many years without the need for repair or replacement.

When constructing a drive, the foundation is of equal importance to the finish and without planning and good building practice a drive can be ruined before it has a chance to provide you with what should be regarded as at least a 15 - 20 year life span, without serious maintenance.

This is not normally a diy project and would be best carried out by professional driveway contractors, landscaper or builder able to carry out a quality service.

There are various types available such as concrete, clay and clay paving tiles. Clay being the most robust and colour resilient.

Clay paving tiles are bonded over existing or new concrete and then grouted to give what is the most maintenance free drive or patio of all the block paving types. As far as I’m aware there is only one producer in the UK and is going to be a hard option to beat.

Existing drives can be revitalised with driveway sealers after cleaning the surface thoroughly, not needed so much on clay as the colour is a true colour fired to give the hard robust finish that you see. If maintained well your completed work should last many years.

Driveway pavers or more commonly called just `pavers`, are as easy to purchase as any building product and stocked in virtually every builders merchants.

Paths constructed with block paving offer a long term investment as once laid should last for a ggod number of years without maintenance.

The internet is a good place to start looking for supplies and will feature in many garden designs.
